Denzil Yates
Denzil Yates, age 74, of Printer, Ky.,
husband of Josephine Meade Yates,
passed away Sunday, December 16,
2001 at his residence.
He was born October 12, 1927 in
Garrett, Ky., the son of the late
Andrew Jackson Yates and Maggie
Moore Yates. Mr. Yates was a member
of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints, Martin, Ky., a retired
coal miner, and a member of the
United Mine Workers Association,
Local No. 1373, Wayland, Ky.
Survivors include five sons, Steven
Yates and Denzil Yates Jr., both of
Printer, Ky., Danny Yates and Tim
Yates, both of Garrett, Ky., and Carter
Yates, Martin, Ky.; five daughters,
Connie Mullins and Pearlene Yates,
both of Printer, Ky., Nadine Herrell,
Columbus, OH, Helen Isaac, Martin,
Ky., LaDonna Briggs, Prestonsburg,
Ky., two sisters, Ester Hall Lawson,
Harold, Ky., and Katherine Meade,
Printer, Ky., 16 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded
in death by one son, Chris Yates, two
daughters, Gwinna Davis Carroll and
Anna Doris Yates; two brothers,
Andrew Yates Jr., and Clifford Yates;
one sister, Ethel Elliott; four
grandchildren, and one great
grandchild.
Funeral services for Denzil Yates were
conducted Tuesday, December 18,
2001, at the Hall Funeral Home
Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the elders of
the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints officiating.
Burial followed in the Meade
Cemetery, Printer, Ky., under the
professional care of the Hall Funeral
Home, Martin, Kentucky. Visitation
was at the church.
Pallbearers for Denzil Yates were
Craig Isaac, Chris Yates, Shannon
Yates, Justin Yates, Brian Yates, Allan
Mullins, Ralph Justice, Randy
Conway, Carl Ray Briggs, Richard
Elliott, and Mike Handcock.

Interment:        Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel,
Kentucky

Talt Hicks, age 93, of Elkhorn City, formerly of
Garrett, Ky., husband of the late Pearlie Wallace
Hicks, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the
Mountain View Health Care Center, Elkhorn City,
Kentucky. He was born October 02, 1917 in Floyd
County, Ky., the son of the late Thomas Hicks and
Artie Oliver Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a Retired Coal
Miner, a member of the UMWA, and a member of
the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Hicks,
Maysville, Ky., Gary Hicks and Clyde Hicks both of
Cynthiana, Ky., six daughters, Peggy Lawson,
Garrett, Ky., Shirley Russom, Sturgis, Mi., Barbara
Myers, Bowling Green, Ky., Carol Hicks, Elkhorn
City, Ky., Rita Sparman, Russell Springs, Ky., Sue
Ann Woodruff, Cynthiana, Ky., 22 grandchildren,
several great grandchildren and 4 great-great
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one
son, Donald Hicks and a daughter, Bonnie Price.

Funeral services for Talt Hicks will be conducted
11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August

03, 2011 at the Stone Coal Regular Baptist Church,
Garrett, Ky., with the Regular Baptist Ministers
officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson
Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., with the Hall Funeral
Home caring for those arrangements. Visitation is
after 6:00 p.m., Monday at Hall Funeral Home.
